I feel very privileged to be living in the foothills of Northeast Georgia. It allows me to be close to an abundance of opportunities for creating my North Georgia Photography. The variety of natural elements in this region such as mountains, waterfalls and old structures is so conducive to capturing nature and scenic photographs.
I have photographed several beautiful North Georgia waterfalls, such as DeSoto Falls, Helton Creek Falls and Minnehaha Falls to name a few. Anna Ruby Falls is extremely popular and I guess for that reason alone I have not ventured to photograph it. It’s been photographed by everyone and that makes it very hard to create a totally unique composition. I may attempt it someday though. I photographed DeSoto falls from under an umbrella because it was raining. It made for an image that brought out the lush green of the trees and vegetation around it. I have sold several copies of this print at the Art shows that I participate in.
There is a hot air balloon race that makes for some great North Georgia Photography. It is the Helen to the Atlantic race that is held in June of each year. I have two photos from the 2007 race and one includes the winner of that race. It is quite a spectacular event to see. You have to arrive very early in the morning or you will miss the launch.
Currently there are 15 restored covered bridges in the state of which 7 are located in Northeast Georgia. I began a project to photograph all 15 of them. I have two so far and one of them is Watson Mill Bridge which is the longest covered bridge at 229 feet. I have decided to try and photograph just the ones located in Northeast Georgia. I believe a more realistic project.
